02. About Me.

Dr. Benjamin Rigney is the Associate Director for Leadership and Character at Wake Forest University School of Law. As such, he is helping lead the premier program for character-based leadership for lawyers in the country.

 

Ben is a graduate of the University of Richmond School of Law (JD, 2022), Carolina University (PhD, 2017), and Liberty University (MATS, 2011). He is also a member the Virginia State Bar. 

During his time at Carolina University, Dr. Rigney learned a wide variety of leadership theories and leadership development practices. Dr. Rigney applied the concepts of leadership development practices to the educational context in his dissertation The Leadership Development Practices of Intercollegiate Athletic Coaches in the Southeastern United States.

Dr. Rigney further explored the concepts of leadership training during his time at time at the University of Richmond School of Law where he assisted Professor Janice Craft in the development, creation, and teaching of the first ever leadership class at Richmond Law. Ben returned to Richmond Law as adjunct faculty to continue teaching “Lawyers as Leaders” with Professor Craft.

Ben has been at Wake Forest University School of Law in the Program for Leadership and Character since January 2023. In addition to his work with the Program, he also teaches Professional Responsibility at Wake Forest Law. Ben is also a member of the Virginia State Bar.
